Biography

Franz-Josef Birkeneder was born in 1960 in Germany. He earned a mechanical engineering degree Diplom-Ingenieur (FH)) from the University of Applied Sciences, Regensburg.

In 1989, after working at Wacker Chemie GmbH in Burghausen, Franz-Josef Birkeneder moved to Knorr-Bremse and joined the Commercial Vehicle Systems division at the Aldersbach site as plant quality manager. From 1993 to 1995, he was Quality Manager at Knorr-Bremse Systeme für Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH, and from 1995 to 1998 he headed the Competence Center for Compressors and Air Dryers. In 1998, Franz-Josef Birkeneder took over plant management of the Knorr-Bremse site in Aldersbach and was also Head of the Competence Center for Air Disc Brakes until 2005. In 2022, he handed over plant management to his successor Gerhard Schwarz. Franz-Josef Birkeneder continues to support the company with his expertise in globally important projects for the Commercial Vehicle Systems division.

In 2016, Mr. Birkeneder was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Company.
