Biography

Stephan Sturm was born in 1963 in Worms, Germany. After completing his secondary education, he studied economics and business administration at the University of Mannheim from 1982 to 1988, earning a degree in business administration ("Diplom-Kaufmann").

He began his professional career in 1989 as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. Between 1991 and 1998, he held various senior roles in investment banking, including positions at BHF Bank and UBS in Frankfurt and London. In 1998, he joined Credit Suisse First Boston as Managing Director, and from 2000 onward he headed the investment banking division for Germany and Austria. He was also a member of CSFB’s European Management Committee.

In 2005, Stephan Sturm was appointed to the Management Board of Fresenius SE, where he served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In 2016, he became Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fresenius SE, leading the global healthcare and medical technology group headquartered in Bad Homburg until 2022.

Since 2023, he has served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Heinz Hermann Thiele Family Foundation.
