Dr. Thomas Enders

Biography

Thomas Enders was born in Germany in 1958. After successfully completing his studies in economics, political science and history in Bonn and Los Angeles, he earned his doctorate (Dr. phil). From 1982 to 1985, Thomas Enders worked as an Assistant to the CSU State Group in the German Bundestag. Between 1985 and 1989, he worked in various foreign and security policy think tanks before becoming a member of the planning staff at the Federal Ministry of Defence in 1989. In 1991 he switched to MBB/DASA, where he held various positions until 1999; most recently Head of Corporate Development. From 2000 to 2005, Thomas Enders was Chief Executive Officer of the Defence Division of Airbus SE, and between 2005 and 2007 he was Co-CEO of EADS/Airbus. In 2007 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Airbus SE Civil Aircraft Division; in 2012 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Airbus SE, a position he held until 2019. Since 2019 he has held the office of President of the German Council on Foreign Relations.
